Best Mum and Baby Fitness Classes

The summer has finally arrived to London, and in just one sunny afternoon, Hyde Park began to resemble a beach side, encouraging to drop some layers we are wrapping ourselves into during rainy days.

While sometimes mums feel that they are getting enough workout trying to keep up with restless tiny feet, many women are feeling self-conscious and not fully comfortable with their bodies after the pregnancy. We firmly believe that beautiful mums come in all shapes and sizes, but keeping fit can give you some healthy glow, confidence, and boost energy levels, too!

Most of us agree that fitness classes are rather affordable, with prices at the community leisure centres starting from 3, it is mostly free time that can be expensive to get. Stay at home mothers cannot always afford a babysitter on a weekly basis, so who will take care of your baby while you shake it at a zumba class or dive into a pool? We have the answer, and sadly, no more excuses now. We gathered some ideas of affordable fitness classes for mums, and do not worry about calling up your baby sitter – your little one is coming along!

1. We absolutely adore the idea of Buggyfit workout programme. “The ultimate fitness class for mums and babies”,

as proclaimed by ‘The Times’, is an hour long outdoor workout, involving a 3 – 5 mile route in total. It is starting gently, then moving into power walk and run to burn fat, while pushing babies in their buggies. The workout is designed to strengthen and tone the muscles we need to enable us to cope with the demands of motherhood. With over 240 qualified trainers in UK, it is quite likely that there is a class you can join nearby.

2. Another very popular, gentler form of exercise which should be available near you, is taking a mum and baby yoga class. The benefits are countless:

developing your baby’s digestive, immune, circulatory and nervous system

strengthening your baby’s neural and brain development

gentle postnatal stretches and relaxation for parents

encouraging parent / baby eye contact

improves your baby’s sleeping

great way to bond with your child

There are many established studios you can choose from, at Mums United we were inspired with MamaBabyBliss. The founder, motivated by her own experiences of being a mum, created a company providing a range of natural holistic services for pregnancy and motherhood. MamaBabyBliss offer Mum, baby and toddler massage and yoga classes, as well get more mums involved by organizing teaching courses.

3. Some major fitness clubs chains are also offering mum and baby activities

David Lloyd clubs offer a programme for families, including classes for parents starting before the baby arrives. During parent and child classes, your little one can spend time playing with other babies; accompany you with the workout, or together you can try playing sports with other mums.

If you live in a family-friendly suburb, it is very likely that your local fitness club will be running a mum&baby fitness class. Why not to power-walk with the buggy to the nearest fitness centre and ask?

We are excited to observe new gyms being opened, focused specifically on mum and baby fitness classes. An example is Little Steps in Enfield, offering varied, structured and up to date classes for mums and babies, toddlers and kids.
